In Spring 2002 we visited a school in southern Arkansas.
At the Arkansas Reading Association meeting later that year (November 2002),
the media specialist said they had a pumpkin contest the month before.
Students had to decorate their pumpkin like their favortie storybook character.
A fourth grader won 2nd prize overall in the school for decorating hers like Tiny Snail.
She painted the pumpkin blue like Tiny's shell, used a sweet potato for the tail,
and painted large, wooden spoons to make the eyes!
